This really beats stuff like free bat day or free chimichanga day. The Nashville Sounds is going to give away a free TiVo to all fathers Sunday in their game against the Oklahoma RedHawks.

What are you going to get your favorite father for father's day? Well, I'm working backwards by thinking about what I want.I've been married for 13 1/2 years to a wonderful lady. We struggled to have our first two children, and turned to high tech for help. Invitro Fertilization and alot of patience, great medical care and a bit of cost helped us produce beautiful offspring.It was a great surprise when my wife announced that we were having a third child, as we had decided two was plenty, and we didn't want to go through another round of invitro. The third one came naturally, so now our family is full; 2 parents, 3 kids ages 7, 5 and 3. Two guinea pigs, a dog, and several gold fish round off the family experience.I love tech toys and tools, and even my first two kids were produced from the latest tech. So what would be an appropriate father's day gift? I already have two digital cameras and a digital video camera. They may not be the latest ones out, but they do a fine job. I have a laptop. It's a few years old, but it, too, does everything I need. I really enjoy my Dell Axim x50v with gps and won't give that up for anything. Hmmm. Love my ipod! Sure, it's a second gen 20gig model, but there's nothing wrong with it. It still rocks, even the battery lasts long enough for a good workout. What to get. What to get. What to get. Dat zegt hij in het radioprogramma Easy Listening van zaterdagavond (Radio 2; 23.00 uur) in een interview met programmamaker Imme Schade van Westrum. De van oorsprong klassieke producer Sir George Martin gaat in op zijn vermeende klassieke invloed op The Beatles.
"Mijn klassieke achtergrond hield ik lange tijd verborgen voor The Beatles. Die kwam pas aanbod toen the boys zich gingen vernieuwen." Martin noemt als eerste voorbeeld Yesterday, waar hij Paul McCartney liet begeleiden door een klassiek strijkkwartet.

Bleekemolen twaalfde in Daytona
DAYTONA - De Nederlandse coureur Jeroen Bleekemolen is zondag als twaalfde geëindigd in de 24-uursrace van Daytona. Hij reed samen met zijn Amerikaanse teamgenoten John Potter en Craig Stanton en de Oostenrijker Richard Lietz 683 ronden in een Porsche GT3. In die klasse was dat resultaat goed voor de vijfde plaats.Het team van Bleekemolen reed 72 rondjes minder dan het winnende team van de Portugees Joao Barbosa, dat in een Porsche Riley 755 ronden reed op de Daytona Speedway met een gemiddelde snelheid van 180 kilometer per uur.
Le Mans
Bleekemolen, kampioen in de Porsche Supercup, komt dit jaar uit in de Amerikaanse Le Mans Series, een reeks langeafstandraces. Zijn overzeese campagne begon met de vermaarde 24 uur van Daytona.Jos Menten kwam ook aan de start in de GT-klasse met een Porsche. Zijn team (met Markus Palttala, Oskar Slingerland en Christophe Lapierre) viel na 276 ronden uit met een defecte motor.

D-day voor ov-chipkaart studenten
UTRECHT - Studenten ondervonden maandagochtend op Utrecht CS weinig problemen met het reizen met hun ov-chipkaart. © ANP De rijen voor de drie oplaadpunten waren niet extreem lang en de apparaten bleven bovendien in werking op 'D-day', zoals de Landelijke Studenten Vakbond (LSVb) deze eerste werkdag na de kerstvakantie beschreef.De nieuwe ov-chipkaart voor studenten is vanaf 1 februari het enige geldige vervoersbewijs. Tot die tijd kan de kaart worden geactiveerd en mogen studenten reizen met hun ongeactiveerde kaart. Studenten op het Utrechtse station maken zich daarom nog niet echt druk.
Chaos
''Ik stap nu gewoon de bus in, maar als je straks die kaart bij het in- en uitstappen moet activeren wordt het denk ik echt chaos'', zegt een student bij de bus naar de universiteit op de Uithof.Voorzitter Gerard Oosterwijk van de LSVb kreeg de laatste dagen wel klachten binnen van studenten die nog geen ov-chip in huis hebben.''Dat zijn er nog steeds zo'n 18.000 in totaal. We raden hen in ieder geval aan om voorlopig met de oude ov-kaart te reizen'', zegt hij.
Tevreden
Het coördinatiepunt Studenten OV-chipkaart is tevreden met de 40.000 studenten die hun kaart al hebben geactiveerd. ''Dat is een mooi aantal voor nu. De overige 600.000 studenten hebben daar nog de hele maand de tijd voor, dus we verwachten dat iedereen op tijd een werkende kaart bezit'', aldus de woordvoerder.
